To fulfill an unexpressed or unrealised desire or dream. Will I ever make that trip? Will I ever write that book? Can I really progress in my organisation? Could I have my own business? Where is that relationship of which I’ve always dreamed? Will the important people in my life know how I feel about them before it is too late?
It doesn’t have to be the dream of your lifetime though it could be, but it does need to be important to you. Maybe you sense that you might always regret it if you don’t accomplish a particular goal or desire. As someone once said, “you might have more regrets about the things you didn’t do than the things that you did.”
To make a difference. I’m working really hard…but am I making a difference for myself, my employer, my family, my community?
The flight attendant remind us that “in case of an emergency, always fit your own oxygen mask first…” What a great metaphor to remind us that we are only able to contribute effectively to our work teams, families and communities when we care for ourselves first. Coaching is a great gift to your well-being and not only do you deserve that, but so do those who rely on and are inspired by you.
To learn their life purpose. In the language of the business world this might be stated as your “personal mission statement.” I think most of us have asked this question of ourselves and our lives before…why am I here? On the one hand this question might seem too deep or mystical to be known, but on the other hand, why would something so fundamental be hidden from us?
